LOS ANGELES / Sept. 30, 2024 — Nathan Hochman, the former federal prosecutor running to be the next District Attorney of Los Angeles County, has reached the county’s $2.5 million fundraising limit for the Nov. 5 election – so he will now raise funds for a foundation supporting crime victims and youth programs.

Boosted by significant enthusiasm for his campaign to defeat George Gascon and his pro-criminal policies, Hochman set a record for fundraising in an L.A. County D.A. election. His upcoming fundraising events will now benefit the LA County DA Foundation, which is pending 501(c)(3) approval and will support programs that assist crime victims and youth education.

“Thank you to the thousands of people from all corners of this county and all political perspectives who donated to my campaign to make sure I have the resources to spread the message that I am the best candidate to restore balance to the D.A.’s Office and make Los Angeles County safer,” Hochman said. “I am now raising money for the L.A. County D.A. Foundation, which will support programs that I strongly believe in.”

Counting the funds he raised for the March 5 primary, Hochman received nearly $5 million in total contributions for the campaign – the most money any candidate has ever raised for a Los Angeles County D.A.’s race.

Voters in this county have seen public safety erode over the past four years because of Gascon’s incompetence, which includes creating a backlog of more than 10,000 unfiled cases, retaliating against prosecutors (who have now filed more than 20 lawsuits against him) and implementing pro-criminal policies that were followed by years of increased crime.

“There has never been a District Attorney election as important as this race,” Hochman said. “We simply cannot survive another four years of Gascon. I look forward to winning this election and working to restore safety and a sensible approach to criminal justice.”

Hochman has had a significant lead in polling, including a recent Los Angeles Times poll that showed he had a more than 2-1 lead over Gascon among voters with an opinion in the race.
